Injections

Injections are one of the most common non-surgical solutions for back pain, headaches, and other types of pain. They are often suggested for patients who have not responded well to medications or physical therapy and are looking for an option other than surgery. At Texas Partners Healthcare Group, we offer a handful of different injections, including:

  • Caudal
  • Facet
  • Epidural Steroid
  • Joint
  • Botox

Each of these injections is a safe alternative to other treatment methods, and they are proven to be quite effective in providing patients with pain relief. They are also a great diagnostic tool that we often rely on to pinpoint the exact source of the patient’s pain. When it comes to back pain, for example, injections are far more effective than oral medications because they allow the medication to be delivered directly to the area that is causing pain. In many cases, a steroid medication is injected into the area in question, providing the patient with an anti-inflammatory solution that offers immediate relief. It is important to keep in mind that the length of relief will depend on the type of injection. In some cases, patients will experience long-lasting relief, whereas others may only be pain-free temporarily.

Let’s now look at the different types of injections performed here at Texas Partners Healthcare Group:

Caudal Injections

Caudal injections are injected into the lowest area of the epidural space and are usually recommended to reduce low back pain and leg pain that is associated with sciatica, herniated discs, and other back problems. This steroidal injection is effective because it works to reduce inflammation associated with back pain.

Facet Injections

Facet joint injections are straightforward procedures that are performed using a fluoroscopy. This minimally-invasive procedure involves an injection of corticosteroid and a numbing agent into the problematic joint. This procedure is effective because it reduces the swelling and inflammation of the nerves. Pain relief may last anywhere from a few days to several years.

Epidural Steroid Injections

Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) are one of the most common treatment options for individuals suffering from extreme low back and leg pain. They have been the go-to option for more than 70 years, providing patients of all ages and conditions with widespread pain relief. While the injection alone is often enough, some patients will need to undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program in order to experience true relief.

Joint Injections

Joint injections are used to diagnose low back pain and help alleviate pain associated with sciatica symptoms or sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction. The SI joint is located next to the spine and connects the sacrum to the hip on both sides. Individuals can experience pain and dysfunction in one or both of the SI joints. An SI joint injection helps diagnose the patient’s pain, while also providing relief. Joint injections can also help other joints including:

  • Knee
  • Shoulder
  • Hip
  • Wrist
  • Ankle
